Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by Martyr Training Services (31279) for unit/s:
FWPCOT2254- Maintain chainsaws
FWPCOT2256- Trim and cut felled trees
FWPCOT2259- Cut materials with a hand-held chainsaw
FWPCOT3301- Trim trees using a pole saw
This short course describes the knowledge and skills required to:
.maintain fuel or electrically powered hand-held chainsaws.
.completing routine maintenance service as well as periodic maintenance servicing and chain sharpening.
.trim and cut felled trees with a chainsaw and complete operator maintenance.
.prepare and cut timber and polymer materials with a hand-held chainsaw.
.preparing for work, cutting materials, maximising volume and quality of recovery material, and performing routine operator maintenance.
.use a fuel or battery powered pole saw to trim tree branches within safe height and angle limits.
The short course applies to individuals who:
.maintain chainsaws, trim and cut felled trees, operate pole saws to trim tree branches for or as part of arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, agriculture, conservation and land management, local government, emergency services and other government agency operations.
.cut materials with a hand-held chainsaw in a variety of work settings, including sawmills, forest product manufacturing facilities, timber yards, horticultural environments, construction, polymer processing and other manufacturing settings.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Students must bring to the training, their own:
?industry standard fuel or battery powered pole saw
?fuel or electrically powered hand-held chainsaws and accessories
?maintenance tools and equipment used to maintain chainsaws and polesaws
?consumable pole saw parts, chainsaw parts, oil and fuel
?personal protective equipment required in pole saw and chain saw operations
?PPE required in trimming and cutting felled trees and chainsaw maintenance activities
Students must negotiate with the RTO if unable to provide any of the above items.
Course Requirements:
?completed the routine and frequently required service requirements for one chainsaw
?completed the periodic service requirements for one chainsaw
?checked and sharpened at least two chains according to manufacturer instructions.
?demonstrated cut types: bridging cuts; swinging cuts; side bind cuts; boring cuts; wedge cuts; ripping cuts; step cuts.
?assessed and cut twenty individual pieces of material with a hand-held chainsaw to industry standard lengths, maximising volume and quality of recovery material
?assessed, planned and conducted the trimming of the accessible branches of six trees within safe height and angle limits using a pole saw

As a registered training organisation (RTO), we collect your personal information so we can process and manage your enrolment in a vocational education and training (VET) course with us.

How we disclose your personal information


Martyr Training Services are required by law (under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (Cth) (NVETR Act)) to disclose the personal information we collect about you to the National VET Data Collection kept by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER). The NCVER is responsible for collecting, managing, analysing and communicating research and statistics about the Australian VET sector.

We are also authorised by law (under the NVETR Act) to disclose your personal information to the relevant state or territory training authority.

How the NCVER and other bodies handle your personal information


NCVER will collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with the law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and the NVETR Act. Your personal information may be used and disclosed by NCVER for purposes that include populating authenticated VET transcripts; administration of VET; facilitation of statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkage; and understanding the VET market. NCVER is authorised to disclose information to the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), Commonwealth authorities, state and territory authorities (other than registered training organisations) that deal with matters relating to VET and VET regulators for the purposes of those bodies, including to enable:

  • administration of VET, including program administration, regulation, monitoring and evaluation
  • facilitation of statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkage
  • understanding how the VET market operates, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information.

NCVER may also disclose personal information to persons engaged by NCVER to conduct research on NCVER’s behalf.

NCVER does not intend to disclose your personal information to any overseas recipients.
