Course Overview
The Certificate II in Medical Service First Response qualification reflects the role of first medical response workers or volunteers who provide initial care to patients.
In accordance with training.gov.au this qualification is desirable for people who may be called upon to provide basic first aid and emergency responses in the pre-hospital or out-of-hospital environment.
A highly practical and interactive program, it provides the knowledge and skills for Medical Service Responders who require the ability to respond, assess, manage, extricate and transport persons involved in traumatic and life-threatening incidents in rural and remote situations.

Entry Requirements
There are no stated prerequisites for this course but you are required to:
.Complete the online training prior to commencement of the course.
.Have a reasonable level of physical fitness in order to participate. In particular you will be required to do the following:
oKneeling when performing CPR for extended periods and conducting patient assessments.
oLifting of patients on spine boards and stretchers and also lifting of equipment
oBending and stretching as you get in and out of awaked spaces especially when treating patients in scenarios.
.Students must have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. An LLN assessment may be conducted upon receipt of enrolment application to ensure each student has the appropriate level of skills required to undertake this course.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer
Students holding a previous certification for the unit of competency and are seeking recognition must supply their credential at the time of enrolment.
Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL is used to determine if you are eligible for advanced standing within the HLT21020 Certificate II in Medical Service First Response based on your previous experience and qualifications.
The RPL process is detailed and requires you to prove without question your competency across the units of competency. If you are not sure you can show competency then it is recommended you do not commence the RPL process.

Certification
Students who successfully complete this course and demonstrate competence will receive a nationally recognised qualification testamur and records of results statement under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The certification will be issued by Risk Response & Rescue (RTO 90774).
Course Cost
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under Smart and Skilled for eligible participants, however places are limited, and fee free training is not guaranteed.
Students will have the opportunity to apply for Smart & Skilled funding when enrolling into the HLT21020 Certificate II in Medical Services First Response.

Eligibility criteria for all Smart and Skilled Programs:
A person who is eligible to receive subsidised training in all Smart and Skilled Programs (except Smart and Skilled Entitlement Apprenticeships and Traineeship Program) is a person who at the time of enrolment into the Certificate II in Medical Services First Response HLT21020 with 5 Star Training & Consulting :

Due to the practical nature of the course, participants are advised to wear clothing appropriate for outdoor activities. You will be required to bring the following items:

Course Delivery
.Part 1 . Self-study and online theory modules
oAn introduction to first aid, advanced first aid and advanced resuscitation principles and remote emergency responses. It consists of several online modules with theory questions that ensure students are at the required level needed for the face-to-face training block.

.Part 2 . Five (5) days face to face intensive training
oStudents will be required to attend a 5-day consecutive face to face training program. The course will run 9am to 5pm, with daily homework. There will be a mix of theory and practical sessions. Scenarios and simulated medical and trauma emergency situations are utilised to further enhance students learning and adaptability to situations common in the out of hospital environment.
oTo meet the nominal hours required for this course students MUST attend each day of the face-to-face training
oAssessments will be interspersed throughout the training and methods will incorporate short answer questions, practical skills and scenarios.
