**This is not an entry level course. Candidates must have already completed a Certificate III qualification or higher in Outdoor Recreation or be able to demonstrate equivalent industry experience to be eligible to undertake the course.

DESCRIPTION
This course is for people working in or wanting to work in the Outdoor Recreation/Education Industry.
It is designed to give the participants opportunities to develop their climbing, abseiling, group management and survival skills in steep and difficult terrain,
The Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership is designed to reflect the role of those who operate within a broad range of varied contexts that may be complex and non-routine. Leadership and guidance are involved when organising activities of self and others, as well as contributing to technical solutions of a non-routine or contingency nature.
LENGTH OF COURSE
The practical roping components of this course is delivered over a period of 4 weeks

Core units . Credit transfer and RPL will meet the requirements of most core units. Where gaps are identified they will be delivered in conjunction with the practical components and via projects and online assignments. (this will generally take about 6 weeks)

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
You will learn the skills and have the knowledge for: Lead Multipitch Abseiling and Lead Intermediate to Advanced Canyons

ELIGIBILITY/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Please Note - this is not an entry level course. Candidates must have already completed a Certificate III qualification or higher in Outdoor Recreation or be able to demonstrate equivalent industry experience to be eligible to undertake the course.
Examples of sufficient relevant skills and knowledge for entry into the qualification must include:
-Previous qualification at the AQF level below or
-Previous experience in the outdoor recreation industry and interest in outdoor pursuits
All applicants are required to provide copies of previous qualifications and a current CV to us before your place on the course is confirmed.
Entry into this qualification will be based on our professional judgement in consultation with the individual.
Do I need previous roping experience?
Yes . you will need to have completed a ropes course either in Abseiling, or Climbing to be eligible to enrol into this course.

Physical requirements
You will also be exposed to cliff environments and be required to undertake a range of canyons and abseils in difficult and advanced terrain. It is necessary that participants have the physical attributes to participate in adventurous physical activities.
Do I need previous climbing experience?
Yes . you will need to have completed a ropes course either in Abseiling, Canyoning or Climbing.

COURSE FEES:
The course is currently available under NSW Fee free however places are limited and if a fee is required it will determined by the Smart and Skilled Calculator

You will be provided with an invoice and payment plan options after a commitment ID has been created through Smart and Skilled

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

We will provide climbing ropes and hardware.

You will be required to provide the following for your training
.Climbing helmet
.Climbing harness
.Wetsuit
.Personal Anchor System (PAS)
.Figure 8 Descender
.Prusiks (2 short, one long)
.Sufficient personal carabiners to be able to perform rescues
.40L bag (canyon bag recommended for canyoning days)
.Pen and notepad
.Rain jacket
.Suitable outdoor footwear e.g. boots or runners
.Thermal clothing (various weights top and bottom)
.A suitable backpack
.Head torch or similar
.Basic first aid kit
.Food and water for each practical day
.Sun Hat
.Multitool or pocketknife
.Navigation equipment (GPS or compass & map)
5 Star Training is able to provide some equipment for this course. Please contact the course coordinator prior to the start of the course if you require equipment.
Please note that 5 Star Training is unable to provide wetsuits. It is recommended that you have a 5mm wetsuit for canyon days. If you do not have one, they can be hired from a variety of different stores in Katoomba
