DESCRIPTION THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY LEVEL COURSE - PLEASE READ THE DETAIL BELOW BEFORE ENROLING This course is designed for people working or wanting to work in the Outdoor Industry, specialising in Abseiling, Top Rope Climbing & Canyoning. This course allows participants to develop their decision making, canyoning, climbing and abseiling abilities. The training is designed to reflect the role of those who operate cliff-based environments in defined contexts. Leadership skills are developed to organising activities of self and others, as well as contributing to technical solutions of a non-routine or contingency nature. LENGTH OF COURSE This course is delivered over 22 days of face-to-face delivery in the Blue Mountains. As prior qualifications are required for this course it is anticipated that the core units will be achieved either by Credit Transfer or RPL If core units gap training is required to be completed, this will be conducted online via self-directed learning. Program content: 9 core units & 13 elective units Core units HLTWHS001 - Participate in workplace health and safety PUAOPE013 - Operate communications systems and equipment SISOFLD002 - Minimise environmental impact SISOPLN001 - Finalise operation of outdoor recreation activities SISOPLN004 - Identify hazards, assess and control risks for outdoor recreation activities SISOPLN005 - Interpret weather and environmental conditions for outdoor recreation activities SISXCCS001 - Provide quality service SISXEMR001 - Respond to emergency situations SISXFAC001 - Maintain equipment for activities Elective skill units SISOABS003 - Abseil single pitches, natural surfaces SISOABS006 - Establish ropes for single-pitch abseiling on natural surfaces SISOABS009 - Lead single-pitch abseiling activities on natural surfaces SISOFLD006 - Navigate in tracked environments SISORSC002 - Perform vertical rescues Climbing, Natural Surfaces, Top Rope SISOCLM002 - Top rope climb single pitches, natural surfaces SISOCLM006 - Establish belays for single pitch climbing on natural surfaces SISOCLM009 - Lead single pitch climbing activities on natural surfaces, top rope climbing Canyoning, Easy to Intermediate SISOCAY001 - Traverse canyons SISOCAY002 - Abseil in easy to intermediate canyons SISOCAY004 - Establish ropes and belays for abseils in easy to intermediate canyons SISOCAY006 - Lead canyoning activities, easy to intermediate canyons SISCAQU020 - Perform water rescues ++ note that progression to the Canyon skill electives is based on the professional judgement of our instructor team. The alternate pathway is to complete Artifiicial Abseil units. To be eligible for this course you must meet either of the following prerequisites. - Prior Outdoor Leadership qualifications - Sufficient logged outdoor experience or life experience. ACCREDITATION SIS30619 - Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership The qualification is taken from the SIS10 - Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. ELIGIBILITY/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Please Note - this is not an entry-level course. Candidates must hold a formal Certificate III qualification or higher in Outdoor Leadership or demonstrate equivalent industry experience to be eligible for the course. Examples of sufficient relevant skills and knowledge for entry into the qualification must include: -Previous qualification at the AQF level below or -Previous experience in the outdoor Leadership industry and interest in outdoor pursuits ** All applicants are required to provide copies of previous qualifications and a current CV to us before your place on the course is confirmed. Admission to this qualification will be determined based on our professional assessment in consultation with the individual. 5 Star Training reserves the right to permit enrolment in this course only if students meet the required standards. Physical requirements You will also be exposed to cold and wet environments and undertake a range of canyons and abseils in rugged and unfamiliar terrain. You must carry backpacks with equipment weighing up to 25kg. You must camp and sleep outdoors in tents on some course dates. Participants should have the physical attributes to participate in adventurous physical activities. Successful participants will need physical capacity and personal skills to work in small groups. Do I need previous roping experience? Roping experience is not essential. However, industry knowledge, life experience or work experience is essential. What if I do not meet the required standard during the training block? Following the training block, the 5 Star Team will investigate the outcome, and a pathway for reassessment will be recommended and provided to the student. PREVIOUS STUDIES RECOGNITION As you must have previous Outdoor Leadership qualifications and or experience, you will likely be eligible for recognition of prior learning or credit transfer in this course. For example, if you have already completed a previous course in Outdoor Leadership and have completed the unit SISOPLN001Finalise operation of outdoor recreation activities You can provide us with a copy of your transcript and receive a Credit Transfer for this unit. 5 Star Training & Consulting will consider any requests for prior learning recognition. COURSE FEES Fee Structure Course fees are calculated using the Smart and Skilled Calculator. This course may be available under NSW fee-free funding, subject to availability. We will notify you if fee-free spots become available. Please note: Fee-free spots are limited and determined by the NSW government. Once all spots are filled, the fee-free option will close. Approximate Fee Structure .Non-Centrelink recipients: $1,200.00 (with Credit Transfer and RPL applied) .Centrelink recipients: $250.00 Note: These are approximate fees only.
