The Fire Safety Advisor(FSA) course teaches participants the skills and knowledge needed to assume the
role and responsibilities of a Fire Safety Adviser in accordance with the Queensland Building Fire Safety
Regulation 2008(BFSR 2008). This course also equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed
to advise on appropriate emergency planning, making them familiar with all aspects of building fire safety.
Purpose
The FSA course has been developed to cover a broad range of emergencies in facilities as considered in
AS3745 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities) and applies to employees with limited or no fire safety
experience and who want to fulfil the role of a Fire Safety Adviser. A Fire Safety Adviser is required to:-
1. Be familiar with all aspects of building fire safety
2. Provide advice to the owner/occupier to ensure that appropriate emergency planning has taken place
3. Provide advice to the owner/occupier to ensure that appropriate instruction is carried out at the
prescribed times and intervals.
Duration
Supervised face-to-face learning . Classroom delivery
All students will have access to post support and learning resources following the course for 12 months.
Assessments will undertaken during the delivery of the course
Units of competency
PUAFER001 . Identify, prevent and report potential facility emergency situations
PUAFER002 . Ensure facility emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are
implemented
PUAFER003 . Manage and monitor facility emergency procedures, equipment and other resources
PUAFER004 . Respond to facility emergencies
PUAFER005 . Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
PUAFER006 . Lead an emergency control organisation
PUAFER007 . Manage an emergency control organisation
PUAFER008 . Confine small emergencies in a facility
Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for this unit stipulated in the Training Packages however any participant
must be over eighteen(18) years of age and have the ability to:
1. Work independently
2. Access and interpret information relevant to a range of typical emergencies that may occur in the facility
or workplace
3. Access and apply hazard controls
4. Be able to communicate clearly in English (or Learning Needs support Services Referral provided)
5. Be able to correctly interpret emergency procedure plans, work permits, and work procedures when
dealing with an emergency or potential hazard
6. No student will be permitted to undertake the course if they are under the influence of alcohol, an
illegal/illicit substance, or impaired by a prescribed medication and other impairments such as fatigue,
mental health issue, or stress.
